A couple of months ago, RTYD member Lisa Porter entered a competition with Avon Cosmetics. They are looking for two female vocalists to record an album and invited global submissions on the Avon Voices website (www.avonvoices.com).
There were over 5000 global entries, and Avon selected 178 contenders to go through to the first round. Out of those contenders, 138 of them were members of the general public, the remainder being Avon Reps. Porter, who at 33 is one of the oldest contestants, says she entered "on a bit of a whim, and thought nothing more of it", found herself selected among 9 members of the general public, and was understandably "a bit pleased" when she was whisked off to Paris at the end of March to record two videos. The first video will go live on the Avon Voices website on the 22nd April. Her continued progress in the competition depends on two rounds of public votes before the judges select 25 semi-finalists.
If she can get through to the semi-finals, she will get flown off to Hollywood for more recordings and some professional vocal coaching; And if she gets through to the finals Porter will be performing live on stage in New York. How about that!
